The Significance of Shaheen Shah Afridi’s Milestone: 100 Test Wickets

The mastered left-arm pacer from Khyber Agency Shaheen Shah Afridi has just accomplished yet another milestone. Though this Afridi’s Milestone came after a lot of formidable days.

He achieved the milestone of hundred wickets in Test Cricket on Day one of the Galle Test making him the 11th Pakistani pacer to do so.

Though this number was stuck at 99 for almost a year due to a freak ligament injury.

The Injury and Problems in Pakistan

He got injured in July 2023 in Galle, just before the Asia Cup and the most important World Cup adding problems for Pakistan Cricket Team.

PCB decided to send Shaheen to Rotterdam for rehab, hoping he will get fit before the Asia Cup. But Shaheen didn’t pull this off and was ruled out of the Asia Cup.

His being out of the side meant PCB had to try some new experiments. Like literally Naseem was given a debut cap in the first game of the Asia Cup against India.

The Naseem experiment worked well for them, he took seven wickets at an average of 19.71. But now Pakistan was desperate to get him fit for the World Cup in Australia, they did somehow manage to get him fit.

He played in the World Cup and was the highest wicket-taker in the tournament for Pakistan, however, he got unfit in the final leaving behind eleven deliveries of his quota, many still believe that had he not been injured Pakistan could have won that.

Anyways he was out of cricket action for 4 months then he came back for Pakistan Super League leading his team to the Trophy.

However, he did admit that he was not fully fit for the World Cup but he still played it. This decision of PCB to play Shaheen with injury cost them a whole winter season, they lost against England at home 3 nil. While they drew against New Zealand.

Pakistan failed to take twenty wickets in any one of the Test matches during the Winter season.

This Afridi’s Milestone was the much-awaited milestone ever. When he got injured it was Galle, he resumed normal services again from there.
