IPL AUCTION 2024:Highlights And Headlines 

The IPL auction 2024 has been historic, featuring some of the most expensive purchases in the history of the IPL. Both foreign and domestic players are sold at high prices. There has been a massive demand for bowlers this year. Let’s discuss the recent highlights of the IPL auction:

IPL 2024 Auction highlighted picks:

Mitchell Starc has shattered all past IPL auction records by being sold at 24.75 crores. Additionally, another Aussie, Pat Cummins, has been sold for ₹20.5 crore to Sunrisers Hyderabad. Daryl Mitchell secured the third-highest price in this year’s IPL auction at ₹14 crore. West Indian player Alzarri Joseph was acquired by RCB for a substantial sum of ₹11.50 crore.

SRH purchased World Cup star Travis Head for ₹6.80 crore. Besides them, domestic stars were also good prices this year. Sameer Rizvi will play for CSK for ₹8.40 crore. Shubham Dubey joined RR for ₹5.80 crore, and the former Punjab player Shahrukh Khan was bought by the Gujarat Titans for ₹7.40 crore. The most expensive Indian player this year was Harshal Patel, acquired by Punjab Kings for ₹11.75 crore.

IPL team squads after the IPL auction:

Chennai Super Kings:

Defending champions CSK are known for transforming unknown players into stars, but unexpectedly, they acquired Daryl Mitchell, the World Cup star for New Zealand in IPL auction 2024. Despite going unsold in the IPL auction 2022, CSK secured him for ₹14 crore. Another Kiwi, Rachin Ravindra, was an absolute steal at only ₹1.8 crore. Then, the young and talented player Sameer Rizvi was sold to CSK for ₹8.40 crore. 

He showcased his prowess in bashing spinners mercilessly in the UP T20 league and has caught the attention of many team selectors, despite limited appearances in list A cricket. Shardul Thakur is back with CSK after three years, acquired for only ₹4 crore. For the first time, CSK bought a Bangladeshi player, Mustafizur Rahman, who will be a replacement option for Pathirana if needed. They also bought Avinash Rao Aravelly for ₹20 lakh.

Mumbai Indians:

Mumbai Indians have brought back Hardik Pandya in an all-cash deal with GT before the IPL 2024 auction. In the IPL auction 2024, they were looking for some good fast bowlers, and they successfully acquired Gerald Coetzee for ₹5 crore. Additionally, they bought two Sri Lankan players for the first time since Lasith Malinga, these players are Dilshan Madhushanka and Nuwan Thusara who were sold to Mi at   ₹4.6 crore and ₹4.8 crore, respectively. 

Apart from these players, they acquired some impressive domestic talents, including Shreyas Gopal, Naman Dhir, Anshul Kambhoj, and Shivalik Sharma, each for ₹20 lakhs. Furthermore, they secured the experienced Afghanistani all-rounder Mohammad Nabi for ₹1.5 crore.”

Royal Challengers Bangalore:

Royal Challengers Bangalore always searches for big players. In the IPL auction 2024, they brought Alzarri Joseph for a whopping ₹11.50 crore. They also acquired Yash Dayal for ₹5 crore, known for his last over against KKR in IPL 2023. Additionally, they secured Tom Curran and Lockie Ferguson at their base price. They purchased domestic talents Swapnil Singh and Saurav Chauhan for ₹20 lakh each.

Kolkata knight riders:

Kolkata Knight Riders were in search of an opening partner for Jason Roy a proficient fast bowler. To fulfill these requirements, they acquired K.S. Bharat and Manish Pandey at a price of 50 lahks each. Addressing their need for fast bowling, they secured the most expensive buy in IPL history, Mitchell Starc, for ₹24.75 crore, who showcased his prowess in the World Cup.

Additionally, they brought in Afghan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman and strengthened their fast bowling unit with Gus Atkinson, Chetan Sakariya, Ramandeep Singh, and Sakib Hussain. They also bought West Indian all-rounder Sherfane Rutherford 

Gujrat titans :

The runners-up of the IPL 2023 were facing the setback of Hardik Pandya’s trade to Mumbai Indians. They had brought Shahrukh Khan at 7.40 crore whose recent ipl season was not good enough and Azmatullah Omarzai for 50 lakh. They had also brought capped Indian bowler Umesh Yadav for 5.80 crore.

Also, their biggest buy this year ipl was Spencer Johnson at 10 crore who has been known for bowling in 145 speed. They have purchased young Indian spinners Sushant Mishra at 2.20 crore and Manav Suthar for 20 lakh. They also brought Robin Minz at 3.60 crore. Karthik Tyagi at 60 lakh. 

Lucknow supergiants :

The Supergiants only needed a good fast bowler that could bowl good starting overs so for this job  they had put money into Shivam Mavi at 6.40 crore, M.siddharth at 2.40crore 

Furthermore, they bought some foreign players like Ashton Turner and David Willey at respectively 1 and 2 crore. Moreover, they had bought domestic pace batteries like Arshin Kulkarni and Mohd. Arshad Khan at their base price of 20 lakh.

Punjab Kings :

Punjab Kings always had the most expensive buys of the auction but in IPL auction 2024, they had spent less than their previous auctions. This time they purchased Harshal Patel at 11.75 crore which was their most expensive buy this year. They had also bought English allrounder Chris Woakes for 4.20 crore. 

They have also gained the services of Rilee Rossouw at 8 crore. Moreover, they bought domestic talents like Ashutosh Sharmathyagarajan, Shashank Singh, Vishwanath Pratap Singh, and Prince Choudhary for their base price of 20 lakh.

Sunrisers Hyderabad :

Sunrisers Hyderabad have bought the Australian allrounder Pat Cummins at 20.50 crore. He is the World Cup-winning captain of Australia this year.

Further, they acquired the services of Travis’s head at 6.80 crores and also they bought  Sri Lankan all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga for 1.5 crore. Moreover, they buy veteran medium pacer Jaydev Unadkat for 1.6 crore. Some domestic players they considered buying are Akash Singh and Jhathavedh Subramanian both at their base price.

Delhi capitals :

Delhi Capitals have not performed well the past IPL year they are looking to add some quality players to their squad. In the IPL 2024 auction, they bought  Harry Brook for their lower middle order at 4 crore. They had also bought some other players which are Tristan Stubbs at 50 lakh, Kumar Kushagra at 7.20 crore, Ricky Bhui at 20 lakh, and Shai Hope at 75 lakh. other than they avail the services of Jhye Richardson for 5 crore. They also bought domestic players like Sumit Kumar, Swastik Chhikara,Rasikh Dar at their base price.
