Indian Cricket Team’s Former Batter, Gautam Gambhir has been reportedly approached by BCCI. He is currently at the top of the list for India’s Men’s Head Coach position. The seat for the head coach will be vacant after the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, as Rahul Dravid will be emptying the slot.
Gautam Gambhir contacted by BCCI:
The KKR mentor has reportedly been contacted by the Board of Control of Cricket in India and has been asked about his opinion on joining the current coaching setup. According to the inside reports, further discussions with the former left-handed Indian batsman will take place after the conclusion of IPL and KKR’s campaign.
The application process for the Indian Men’s Head Coach position will end on 27th April. This would be a day after the final of the Indian Premier League. It would be interesting to see how BCCI handles the situation in the case of a delay in the whole process.
Previous Head Coach stints by Gautam Gambhir
Although he has yet to gain prior experience in coaching at the international or domestic level, he has been a part of several coaching staff in IPL franchises. He was the team mentor for Lucknow Super Giants in the 2022 and 2023 editions of IPL. Luckily, the team qualified for the playoffs in both years.

In the 2024 edition of the league, Gambhir moved to KKR after reportedly being persuaded by Shahrukh Khan, KKR’s principal owner. They have topped the table in the group stages to qualify for the play-offs.
Accolades for Gambhir:
Gambhir was a part of India’s 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 World Cup-winning Indian Men’s Squads. He has won 2 titles for KKR and has played five playoffs. If possible it will be interesting to see how he approaches the following responsibility.
Dravid’s Tenure and him leaving:
Rahul Dravid took control of the team as Head Coach after the disastrous 2021 T20 World Cup. The Original contract was up until the 2023 World Cup but an extension let him serve the team until after the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup.
