Nooh Dastagir’s Win: Lifting Pakistan to New Heights in Powerlifting

Pakistan’s premier weightlifter Nooh Dastagir Butt announced his entry into the powerlifting world with a remarkable debut. He won the Commonwealth Powerlifting Championship held in Sun City, South Africa. He bagged three golds and one bronze medal in different categories. Nooh Dastagir’s win established his name in the powerlifting world.

Nooh Dastagir championship Triumph

Nooh Dastagir’s first win came in the open championship where he lifted 860 kg. No one was able to match this hence Nooh Dastagir triumphed.

Adding more to his majestic performance he bagged two golds in 210 kg bench press and 370 Kg squat competition.

Nooh Datagir’s more wins

Nooh Dstagir’s winning streak did not finish here as he went on to bag a bronze medal in 280 Kg deadlift. 

Nooh Dastagir’s win made headlines and he garnered a lot of praise. Pride of Performance recipient took to Instagram to announce his victory where he posted a video of him winning with the caption “Won gold medal at Commonwealth Classic Powerlifting Championships 2024, Stop me if you can, this Butt is not going to stop,” while expressing gratitude to his supporters. 

Nooh and Pakistan weight lifting Federations disputes

Two years ago Nooh Datagir’s win in the Commonwealth Games weightlifting was not enough to get support from the Pakistan Weightlifting Federation as the differences between the Commonwealth gold medalist and the federation grew to a point that the Federation is accused of sabotaging his Olympic dream. 

Following these differences 26 years old decided to transition to powerlifting at the time when he was asked about this change he saidWhen my path in weightlifting was closed, I had no choice but to go for powerlifting and that’s where I also won medals at the national level twice before, and won my third title this year,” 

Nooh Dastagir’s win testament to his brilliance 

Nooh Dastagir’s win brought Pakistan’s maiden powerlifting medal. Nooh’s win in weight and powerlifting is an indication of his pure talent. Nooh comes from the city of Gujranwala he started weightlifting at the age of 11 and earned a name for himself at just 18 years old. Nooh Dastagir gives credit for his win to his father.
