Pakistan “loses opportunity” to play a football match against Russia.

Unfortunately, Pakistan’s national football team had to pass up the chance to play a friendly match against Russia, a top-ranking opponent, in October due to scheduling constraints. Reports indicate that Russia had extended an offer to Pakistan to participate in a friendly match during the FIFA international window in October.

The Russian Football Federation had offered to cover all expenses for a match scheduled for October 11 in Russia. However, the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) declined the offer, stating that there wasn’t enough time for preparation. The PFF then requested to reschedule the friendly match for the November window, but the Russian Football Federation turned down the proposal.

The two federations last communicated in late September, and with no further developments, the prospects of a November match have nearly faded. Sources added that FIFA will not release funds to the PFF for friendly matches, further complicating efforts to arrange an international fixture against another opponent in November.

“Discussions with Russia were initiated because they offered to cover all expenses,” one source said. “In the future, a match will only be possible if the hosting federation agrees to bear the costs.”
