Department Cricket Starts Again: “President Trophy” Resumes with New Rules:

The Pakistan Cricket Board has made some changes to the rules for the “President Trophy” first-class cricket tournament in Karachi. These changes are a bit different from the usual rules, and people are talking about them.

Innings Limited to 80 Overs:

In this tournament, teams are not allowed to bat for as many overs as they want in their first innings. They are limited to 80 overs. However, there is no such restriction for the second innings.

Scoring and Bonus Points:

If a team manages to score 350 runs or more, they get a bonus point for batting. On the other hand, the bowling side earns a bonus point if they can dismiss the opposing team within the set 80 overs. There’s a unique rule here: if the captain of the batting team decides to end their innings before reaching 80 overs, the bowling side gets a bonus point.

First Day of the Tournament:

On the first day of the President Trophy, two teams, State Bank and SNGPL, did really well and got bonus points. Let’s see how they did.

At the SBP sports complex, PTV didn’t do so well. They only scored 66 runs, and State Bank’s Mohammad Abbas took 6 wickets, which is excellent. State Bank then batted and finished the day at 201 for 1. Zain Abbas, one of their players, scored 109 runs without getting out, and Umar Amin scored 69 runs. State Bank got 4 bonus points on the first day: 1 for bowling out the other team and 3 for taking the lead in the first innings. They have a chance to get one more bonus point on the next day if they continue to bat well.

At the National Bank Stadium, SNGPL also did a good job. They scored 371 runs in 80 overs for the loss of 7 wickets against Ghani Glass. Abid Ali, Asad Shafiq, Sahibzada Farhan, and Omair Bin Yousaf played well for SNGPL. On the other hand, Mohammad Rameez of Ghani Glass took 6 wickets.

At the UBL sports complex, despite Iftikhar Ahmed and Mohammad Saleem scoring centuries for WAPDA, they couldn’t get a bonus point. They posted 322 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 80 overs, with Iftikhar Ahmed scoring 155 runs off 180 balls and Muhammad Saleem scoring 117 runs.

So, it seems like the first day of the tournament was exciting with some good performances and a bit of disappointment for some teams.
