Defending champions India have been on a roll in this edition of the women’s Asia Cup 2024, winning all their matches. In today’s game, India defeated Bangladesh and made it through to the final with a strong all-around performance.
India’s Heroics
The toss was won by Bangladesh’s captain, Nigar Joty, who decided to put runs on the board. However, Indian bowlers delivered impressive performances, striking early. Pacer Renuka Singh took 3/10, while Radha Yadav, the left-arm spinner struck on her first ball and finished with a double wicket maiden, ending with 3/14. Deepta Sharma also picked up 1 wicket for 14 runs.
With the kind of opening pair that India possesses, they made the chase look easy. Smriti Mandhana scored a quickfire 55 of 39 balls, while Shafali Verma played the role of an anchor with 26 off 28 balls. Without losing any wickets, India chased down the target of 83 runs.

Where did it all go wrong for Bangladesh?
Bangladesh were all over the place in today’s game, specifically with their batting, which has been letting them down. After deciding to bat first, they couldn’t go beyond 80 runs, and at one point, it looked like they might not even reach 50. There were a couple of soft dismissals. The only batter holding the innings together was the captain, Nigar Joty as wickets were tumbling on the other end. Despite being there for most of the innings, Joty couldn’t help Bangladesh post a competitive total. The bowlers had little to nothing to defend, and Nahida Akter was the most expensive, giving away 34 runs in her three overs.
Conclusion
The defending champions have carried their form and made it to the finals of the Women’s Asia Cup 2024. India displayed an all-around performance with disciplined bowling, excellent fielding, and outstanding batting. However, Bangladesh could have performed better. Their batting has consistently let them down. They need to work on their batting strategy and approach to better utilize the talent they possess.
