Pakistan, Japan Set for Sultan Azlan Shah Cup Final After Dominant Showings

Pakistan remains unbeaten in the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup and Maintains the Top Spot, earning a Final Berth. Pakistan continued their impressive run at the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup 2024, securing a spot in the final against Japan. The team, currently leading the six-team tournament with an undefeated record (three wins and a draw), will face Japan on May 11th in Ipoh, Malaysia.

Japan Books Final Spot with Malaysia Win

Japan mirrored Pakistan’s performance, also securing a final berth with three wins and a draw. They defeated Malaysia 2-1 in their last match, solidifying their place in the championship game. With a dominant show at the event, the final will show the balance of prowess both teams possess at this moment.

Current Standings at Sultan Azlan Shah Cup 2024

Pakistan and Japan sit atop the standings, followed closely by Malaysia and New Zealand in third and fourth place respectively (both with six points). Korea sits at fifth with three points, while Canada remains winless at the bottom of the table.

Pakistan’s Comeback Victory over Canada

Earlier, Pakistan faced a challenge against Canada, falling behind by two goals within the first 17 minutes. However, they staged a remarkable comeback, led by Abu Bakr Mahmood’s brace. Arshad Liaqat, Rana Waheed Ashraf, and Ghazanfar Ali each added a goal to secure a thrilling 5-4 victory for Pakistan.

Final Round Robin Games at Sultan Azlan Shah Cup 

Pakistan will play their final round-robin match against New Zealand on May 10th. All eyes will be on both Pakistan and Japan as they prepare to clash for the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup title on May 11th. The final will showcase both the unbeatable teams till now. Will Japan be able to hold Pakistan off, or will they be provided a straight path to the glory? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
