Decisions at PCB continue to baffle fans, as a few weeks ago Mohammad Rizwan who is part of the Saya corporation was overlooked for any leadership duties for the Pakistan Cricket Team as Shaheen Afridi and Shan Masood were made captains of the ODI and Test teams. However, a month later, as Pakistan lands in New Zealand for the T20 series, Rizwan becomes vice-captain.
The Saya Corporation Witch Hunt
During the World Cup, news channels famous for broadcasting political news and talk shows had been hosting cricket programs with a similar format to a political talk show where everyone is there to criticize or make a mountain out of a molehill. One particular issue that was reported was a player management company representing a quarter of the World Cup squad players.
Inquiries were started on former Chief Selector Inzamam Ul Haq, while alleged audio of Zaka Ashraf was leaked where he was heard criticizing Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan for having an influence on the team and not wanting them to be considered for team leadership roles.
Hence, when Rizwan was ignored for the captaincy role, it seemed as if PCB was on a witch hunt against the particular senior players.

Mohammad Rizwan getting the vice-captain role
Rizwan should have been the most likely candidate for the captaincy position as during Babar’s captaincy he was the 3rd choice where Shadab Khan was acting as the vice-captain. But a performing Rizwan was overlooked after Babar was removed as captain and Shadab got dropped due to poor performances.
However, as the team landed in New Zealand for the T20 series, the PCB seemed to have heeded the criticism and taken a more logical approach. Mohammad Rizwan’s appointment as the Vice Captain was a welcome and overdue decision, providing a glimmer of sanity amid the tumultuous situation. It indicates a step in the right direction, demonstrating a willingness to correct past mistakes and prioritize merit over external influences.
As the cricketing world watches the unfolding drama surrounding the PCB’s decisions, the appointment of Rizwan as Vice Captain may serve as a turning point. It is now up to the board to continue making rational choices that prioritize the team’s success over any off-field controversies, ensuring a harmonious and focused environment for the players. Only time will tell whether this move marks the end of the tumultuous chapter or merely a temporary respite in the ongoing saga of PCB’s decision-making process.
