Kakul Camp or Injury Camp

In Mohsin Naqvi’s own words, the Kakul Camp was supposed to improve the player’s ability to hit sixes. While cricket fans are still wondering how a fitness camp was to improve the players six hitting abilities, player injuries, and niggles have started to be reported.

Azam Khan and Mohammad Rizwan out with injuries

Azam Khan had been facing discomfort in his knees while batting in the nets for the preparation of the Pakistan vs New Zealand series, but following a medical examination, Azam was ruled out of the series as it was revealed that he had sustained an injury to his calf muscle.

Meanwhile, the primary wicketkeeper of Pakistan, Mohammad Rizwan was also ruled out of the series as he has come up with a hamstring injury.

More injuries are also being reported as Naseem Khan had shown discomfort during the 3rd T20 against New Zealand. Newcomer Irfan Khan Niazi, who was amongst the fittest at Kakul has also developed a hamstring injury and has been ruled out of the series.

Meanwhile, Imad had already excused himself from the 10-day fitness regime citing potential injury concerns.

The purpose of the camp has still confused many onlookers as back in 2016, the objective was quite clear with the camp being held to prepare for the 2016 Test Series against England. After the spot-fixing exposure in 2010, Pakistan wanted to make sure to make a good impression.

However, this time around, it seemed as if the national cricket team was being used as a political tool to whitewash the sins of some institutions. Thus, by making the national players attend a 10-day camp at Kakul, and by bringing Amir and Imad out of retirement, it is clear that Pakistan seems to be very desperate to win the upcoming World T20 in the USA/West Indies.

It makes one wonder, if the team manages to win, who would be looking to take the credit? The Kakul camp pictures are expected to resurface again.
