Can Lando Norris maintain momentum: Las Vegas GP Preview

Lando Norris has one hand on the 2025 World Drivers’ Championship (WDC) after a strong performance in Brazil. Now, after a few weeks’ hiatus, it’s time for the final triple-header of the season, starting with the Las Vegas GP this weekend, and will conclude in Abu Dhabi in the first week of December.

The 2025 Formula One (F1) WDC winner will be crowned during this triple-header. There are three races to go and 83 points up for grabs.

Track and Weather ahead of 2025 Las Vegas GP

F1 added Las Vegas to its calendar in 2023, adding another street circuit. The anti-clockwise 6.201 km track features 17 high-speed turns and two DRS zones. Drivers will reach speeds as high as 340 km/h. The race distance is more than 300 km with 50 laps.

The circuit is one of the fastest. The iconic Vegas backdrop makes the event more entertaining.

Norris vs Piastri title fight, will there be another Twist?

Lando Norris dominated the Mexican GP and had a perfect weekend, while his McLaren teammate and title rival, Oscar Piastri, crashed during the sprint and finished fifth, increasing the gap between Piastri and Norris to 24 points.

Although it seems Norris has almost won the WDC, there is still a chance for Piastri to bounce back. Despite having a poor outing at the São Paulo GP, Piastri showed signs of improvement; on the other hand, Vegas is not a strong circuit for Norris.

Even if Oscar wins and Norris finishes second in the remaining three races, Norris will win the title. Piastri needs a clean weekend and a stroke of luck. Las Vegas is the circuit where he has the best chance to turn the momentum in his favour.

Does Max Verstappen still have a chance?

After the summer break, Max Verstappen made a brilliant comeback, having been on the back foot at the start of the season. The Dutchman slashed a 104-point lead from then-leader Piastri and was back in the title contention, challenging the McLaren pair.

In Brazil, Verstappen had a poor qualifying, where he was eliminated in Q1 and had to start from the pit lane due to component changes. On Sunday, it was another Max Verstappen masterclass as he drove from the pit lane to the podium, securing P3.

The gap between Verstappen and the championship leader Norris is 49 points. Las Vegas is one of those circuits where McLaren struggles, and it is a strong circuit for Verstappen; he won the 2023 Las Vegas GP.

The 28-year-old needs a major swing in points in his favour, and the Las Vegas GP is the perfect opportunity for that. So yes, Verstappen still has a chance to clinch his fifth WDC.

The 2025 WDC is down to only three races, and the final triple-header starts in Vegas. Verstappen and Piastri need to dominate this if they want the championship to swing in their favour, while Norris has to overcome his weaknesses to keep his lead.
