Brazil GP : Verstappen Storms to Victory from P17 with  double Alpine Podium

“He came, he saw, and he conquered.” This quote perfectly summarizes Max Verstappen’s mammoth victory in the Brazil GP, which was arguably the most chaotic race of the season. In heavy rain, he started from P 17 and made significant strides, finishing on top, ending his winless streak of 10 races and moving closer to his fourth championship victory

Top Positions in Brazil GP 

On the podium, he was joined by two Alpine drivers. Alpine pair Estaban Ocon and Peres gasely finished on P2 and P3  respectively securing a double podium for the French team after 11 years. Gorge Russel who was on the  Gasely’s tail finished just behind Frenchman on fourth followed by Ferari’s Charles Leclerc.

Mclarren’s disappointing show at Brazil GP

The Mclaren duo had a weekend to forget during Brazil GP as Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri finished in sixth and position respectively. Norris who got a sprint victory and clinched the pole during rain-affected qualifying on Sunday lost his position to Gorge Russel in the early stages of the race. It was evident that the championship contender was facing problems and he was on sixth when the chequered flag was raised shattering the Briton’s Championship hopes

Qualifying Drama 

Qualifying was no less than a drama; it involved crashes and penalties. Max Verstappen was penalized due to changes in his engine; he had to start from P17. Williams’ Alex Albon’s car was not fixed on time, making him unable to participate in the race.

Slapdash Start 

The chaos began even before the start of the race as Lance Stroll collided his car into the gravel and retired just on the formation lap. When the race began Poll setter Norris quickly lost his advantage and Gorge Russel overtook him. Oliver Bearman received a 10-second penalty due to his collision with the sole Willams’ driver on the grid. 

On the back of the grid Verstappen showed brilliance and quickly overtook a few drivers amid the collision chaos around him later on reflecting on this he said “We stayed out of trouble, we made the right calls and stayed calm and we were flying so all of these things together made that result possible,” 

On Lap 4 of the Brazil GP, he overtook Lewis Hamilton after a battle later on he claimed the 9th position by replacing Fernando Alonso.  He quickly took P6 by surpassing Piastri.

Max thrives during Mayhem at Brazil GP 

Verstappen was moving strides to the podium positions by smartly adapting to the conditions and capitalizing on the incidents that caused safety car appearances and reshuffling grid orders.

Between all of this, the Dutchman pitted for the new tires. 

On Lap 32 Williams’ Franco Colapinto’s car crashed which caused a brief pause during the race. When the race restarted Max Verstappen was behind Esteban Ocon and Peries Gasely who were due a pit stop. 

The last few laps of Brazil GP were calm and on Lap 43 Verstappen surged past Ocon and established a lead which was difficult for the other drivers to overcome.  Max won the race by a margin of almost 20 seconds despite starting from P17. He became the seventh driver in history to win a race after starting from P17. This victory guaranteed him the championship victory. 

Post Race Reactions

After the race Red Bull crew was more than happy Max himself expressed his excitement “But I mean unbelievable, to win here from so far back on the grid.” Max Verstappen on winning

Max Verstappen’s father Jos Verstappen was also impressed by his performance at Brazil GP. “He was insane today,”

At Mclrren camp disappointment was visible Lando Norris whose championship chances are bleak now said “It was a tough day, I did my best. I’ve had a lot of good races, it was about time that something didn’t go right,”
