Strengths

Fielding

Currently, it’s difficult to choose a specific individual as the best fielder in the team. However, certain individuals possess exceptional fielding skills. Glen Maxwell is well known for this agility, capable of turning the game around with elegant catches & precise runouts.

Another standout is Marcus Stoinis, showcasing safe hands and sharp reflexes. Together, the team offers brilliant fielding skills. They will have to be on top of their game to secure victories.

Power hitting

Whether it’s the openers, middle order, or the tail, power hitters are in the Australian squad. Every player in this team can score rapid runs in a matter of few balls, either to score a victory or to increase the team total.

Notably, some of the best power hitters in their camp include Tim David, Marcus Stonis & Glenn Maxwell. On their day, they can destroy the opponent’s bowling attack, possessing the ability to hit the ball into the stands or fly out of the park.

Bowling Attack

Australia is ready to dominate any opposition due to its balanced bowling attack. This bowling attack can exploit all conditions due to its versatility keeping in mind that part-timers can be used depending on the situation.

With players like Ashton Agar, Adam Zampa, Pat Cummins, and Mitchel Starc, they present a threat to their opponents and are ready to take the match away.

Weaknesses

Fielding Standards

While their fielding has been a strength and has won them games, it has also become a weakness. Dropping crucial games has cost them the games in recent times. To overcome this, they need to focus on fielding drills to sharpen their skills and minimize potential errors.

Lack of variation in bowling

While the squad is balanced overall, the attack is pace-heavy and lacks quality spinners. Adam Zampa, an experienced leg spinner, is the lone specialist spinner in the team. Ashton Agar, though capable, has recently been utilized more as an allrounder.

To complement Zampa on spin-friendly pitches, the team lacks additional specialized spinners. As a result, the plan seems to rely on part-time spinners who, while useful, don’t pose the same threat as special spinners.

Middle Order Stability

Australia has an explosive batting lineup; however, it can also let them down. This has been evident in T20 cricket. While they they usually start strong, with their openers and aggressive batting, there has been a sudden collapse in the middle order due to which the innings come to a halt or the run rate decreases. These collapses can be costly in high-intensity matches.

Key players

Tim David’s batting can strike the ball far and send it gliding into the stands, particularly during the crucial final overs of a match. His skill for scoring quick runs when needed can turn the tide of the game in favor of his team, often leaving opponents struggling to contain his attack.

We have seen it over and over again, him proving himself and putting his abilities to the test, especially in the PSL where his team has had a few close encounters.

Cameron Green’s height provides him with an advantage as he can generate pace and bounce from the pitch. This allows him to create breakthroughs, upsetting the opposition’s batting lineup, and swinging the momentum in his team’s favor

He can also step up in crucial situations when required and deliver match-winning performances. Furthermore, he stands in crucial positions on the field, coupled with his sharp fielding skills, making him a valuable asset to the team.

Glen Maxwell brings experience to the side, having played multiple matches both domestically and internationally. His exposure to different conditions allows the team to make decisions, especially in high-pressure matches.

Further, he’s known for his capability to clear the boundary with ease, often dealing with the opposition through sixes, thereby accelerating the scoring rate and exerting pressure on the opposition.

Marcus Stoinis possesses power-hitting skills, capable of striking the ball out of the stadium. Besides, he is a reliable fielder, highly skilled at taking important catches. Furthermore, he can break partnerships by taking crucial wickets when needed. As an all-rounder he adds value to the team, contributing with both bat and ball.

Ashton Agar is a primary spin option in the squad, being a left-arm orthodox spinner. While extracting turn from the pitch, he maintains tight lines and lengths. He can deceive the batsman with variations in flight and spin. He adds value to the bowling attack, specifically in spin-friendly conditions where his expertise can be utilized to the maximum.

Which place they are likely to finish in the T20i World?

Given the history of previous tournaments, Australia has the potential to reach the semi-finals and even the final. However, cricket is unpredictable, regardless of the team’s position. Even the greatest and strongest teams can choke at crucial moments.

Success hinges on Australia’s capability to handle pressure situations effectively and exploit their strengths to secure a place in the finals.
