Ubisoft’s XDefiant Gets Release Date and Content Roadmap

Ubisoft’s ambitious arena shooter, XDefiant, finally has a release date set for later this month. The game has been in development for some time and has garnered attention for its potential to rival the popular Call of Duty franchise.

XDefiant to Launch with Pre-Season on May 21st

Players can gear up for fast-paced action starting May 21st, as XDefiant launches on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X. This initial period will be a six-week pre-season, offering a taste of what’s to come. During this time, players can explore 14 maps (including 10 arena and 4 progression maps), try out various modes, and experiment with 24 weapons. The pre-season will also feature five playable factions, with one being based on Dedsec from the Watch Dogs series.

Regular Seasons with New Content Every Three Months

Following the pre-season, XDefiant will transition to a regular seasonal model similar to other games in the genre. Players can expect substantial updates every three months.

Here’s a breakdown of what each new season will bring:

  • New Faction: Each season will introduce a new faction for players to master.
  • Fresh Weapons: Three new weapons will be added to the game’s arsenal every season.
  • Expanded Maps: The battlefield will grow with three new maps added per season.
  • 90-Tier Battle Pass: A new 90-tier Battle Pass will offer players challenges and rewards each season.

Ubisoft has also promised to add new arena and progression modes throughout XDefiant’s first year. Additionally, a full ranked mode, private matches, and improved player protection features are planned. XDefiant is surely ready to go in full guns blazing and the intent is to stay and lead.

With a steady stream of content planned and features in development, XDefiant looks promising. However, only time will tell if it can dethrone Call of Duty as the king of arena shooters.
