In an exhilarating semi-final, the home team Sri Lanka took on Pakistan. The momentum kept shifting, keeping fans on the edge of their seats. Pakistan played well but choked in the final moments. In the end, Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan in the semi-final and secured a spot in the final of Women’s Asia Cup 2024

Sri Lanka miraculously made it through!

Sri Lankan Captain, Chamari Athapathu, won the toss and decided to field first. Sri Lanka chased the target of 141 thanks to an essential inning from Captain Chamari Athapathu &  Anushka Sanjeevani unbeaten 24. While Athapaththu held the innings together from one end, wickets kept falling at the other end, making it seem at one point that Sri Lanka might not make it. Everyone knew that if Athapaththu remained at the crease for a while, she could turn the tide in Sri Lanka’s favor, and that is exactly what happened. Even though Athapaththu couldn’t finish the game, the finishers ensured they did their job well.

On the bowling and fielding front, Sri Lanka was average and struggled to field. They gave away more runs than necessary, dropped a couple of catches, and failed to take any wickets during the powerplay. However, Kavisha Dilhari took 2/33 and Udeshika Prabodhani took 2/23.

Where did it all go wrong for Pakistan?

Pakistan bossed over both the power plays. The openers provided a steady start, scoring 60 runs without losing a wicket. After the openers were sent back to the hut, the scoring rate slowed, but an important partnership between Aliya Riaz and Fatima Sana helped Pakistan post a competitive total of 140/4.

On the other hand, Pakistan’s bowling and fielding were decent, though there were some setbacks. There were a few missed catches, boundaries that weren’t stopped, and missed stumping opportunities. Sadia Iqbal was exceptional, striking early with the important wicket of Vishmi Gunaratne and finishing with figures of 4/16. Omaima Sohail and Nida Dar were also among the wickets, taking 1/16 and 1/20 each.
