The Pakistan Football Federation has announced its squad for the upcoming AFC Asian Cup Qualifier against Syria, with Umar Nawaz earning his first-ever senior national team call-up.
Currently part of the Wrexham AFC academy in Wales, Umar’s selection marks a remarkable milestone in a story defined by courage and perseverance.
His brother, Ahmad Nawaz, shared an emotional post celebrating the achievement, recalling the family’s resilience following the 2014 APS Peshawar attack, which Umar survived at just seven years old.
“It takes ironclad resilience and great character to persevere through such hardships at such a young age. Today, after over 10 years of hard work, Umar plays for Wrexham AFC and has been called up for national duty,” Ahmad wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Umar’s journey from tragedy to international football stands as an inspiring example for young Pakistanis, symbolizing strength, hope, and the power of perseverance.
Pakistan will face Syria in their AFC Asian Cup qualifying fixture later this month.
