In a dominant quarterfinal performance, the Italian star continued his unstoppable form and destroyed Auger-Aliassime. Jannik Sinner extended his winning streak on the surface to 25 games, continuing his incredible dominance on hard courts. The world No. 1 easily defeated Félix Auger-Aliassime 6-0, 6-2 in the Cincinnati Open quarterfinals, his first tournament since winning his fourth grand slam title at Wimbledon.
With runs of six straight games starting and finishing the match, the reigning champion showed no signs of rust. The tenacious Italian offered little opposition to Auger-Aliassime, who had defeated Sinner in their two prior encounters. The short duration of the match “71 minutes” emphasized Sinner’s merciless effectiveness.
Dominance From Start to Finish
The 23-year-old Sinner will now play in the semi-finals against either French qualifier Terence Atmane or Holger Rune. The only men this century to win 25 straight matches on hard courts are Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Andy Murray. His most recent defeat on hard courts occurred in Beijing last October against Carlos Alcaraz, capping an incredible run.
Sinner remarked, “I felt like I was returning very well. That was my main argument, and it gave me the courage to serve effectively. When he broke me in the second set, I had a little drop, but I’m glad I broke him back right away. I thought I was playing some excellent tennis.”
Gauff and Paolini Advance in Women’s Draw
Coco Gauff, the second seed in the women’s fourth round, beat Lucia Bronzetti of Italy 6-2, 6-4. After beating Barbora Krejcikova, a former Wimbledon champion, 6-1, 6-2, the American will face seventh-seeded Jasmine Paolini in the quarterfinals.
Gauff said, “I mostly played aggressively.” “Maybe I was passive a few times, but it’s hard because the balls are so light and she wasn’t giving me much speed.” “I was just trying to be aggressive while still being in control.”

Berrettini Withdraws From US Open
At the same time, Matteo Berrettini has dropped out of the US Open. The ex-world No. 6, who is now ranked 59th, hasn’t played since losing in the first round of Wimbledon because of an injury to his stomach. He didn’t go to the Swiss Open or the Masters 1000 in Toronto or Cincinnati.
Brandon Holt from the US will take the place of the 2019 US Open semi-finalist in the main draw. On August 24, singles play will start at Flushing Meadows.
