Enzo Maresca: The Vanguard of Chelsea’s Resurgence

“We’ve got our Chelsea back,” chanted the away fans at St Mary’s last night as Chelsea celebrated a resounding 5-1 victory over Southampton. In fact, that final score was generous to the home team; Chelsea had the potential to score ten goals. Ultimately, they finished with five, even while underperforming their impressive record of 5.29 expected goals (xG).

Chelsea’s Scoring Dominance in the Premier League

Chelsea is currently at the top of the Premier League in terms of goals scored, showcasing an impressive attacking prowess. They rank second in goal difference, trailing only league leaders Liverpool. The team is averaging more than two goals per game, which highlights their offensive strength, while they are conceding just a little over one goal per game on average.

This effective balance between scoring and defending creates an outstanding strategy for achieving success in the league. With this level of performance, Chelsea is in a strong position to challenge for the title this season.

Enzo Maresca: Restoring Chelsea’s Glory and Winning Back the Fans

Enzo Maresca isn’t one to get caught up in emotions, but his master plan is yielding the results we expect.

“Our goal, and the reason we work every day, is to keep the fans happy. Tonight was a great feeling, especially knowing that they can see Chelsea is back; that’s the most important thing.”

“We have been focused on our performances since the beginning. I believe that results certainly help to calm some of the noise around the club. It feels good to see the fans happy, especially after the last two years. Their current feeling is positive, and that brings us joy as well.”

“It’s also great to see that all the players can contribute to the goals. I think there are only three or four teams that have conceded fewer goals than we have, so we are very pleased with that.”

Chelsea’s Dominance Shines Amidst Southampton’s Struggles

Southampton played over half the match with a man down, which certainly contributed to the outcome. However, even before their captain, Jack Stephens, received a red card for pulling Marc Cucurella’s hair—a decision that Mike Dean would not let slide—Chelsea had been dominant, leading 3-1 at that point.

While there isn’t much satisfaction in defeating the worst team in the league, it’s important to remember that any team in the Premier League can be dangerous.

“I’m very pleased with the five goals we scored. However, I wasn’t happy with the first 10 or 15 minutes when we struggled. The issue was that we had planned to press them man-to-man, but we didn’t execute that strategy in the opening minutes. If you don’t apply that pressure, recovering the ball becomes difficult against this team.

“After that, we adjusted our approach, and the game improved significantly. We could have scored even more, but five goals is enough.”
