Arshad Nadeem’s Heroic Welcome: Pakistan Celebrates Olympic Champion’s Return

In a momentous occasion, Pakistan’s Olympic gold medalist Arshad Nadeem received a grand welcome upon his return to the country after his historic performance at the Paris Olympics 2024. 

The nation came together to celebrate the achievements of the javelin superstar, who ended Pakistan’s 40-year-long gold medal drought with a record-breaking 92.97 meters throw.

A Grand Welcome at Lahore Airport

Javelin ace Arshad Nadeem, who finally ended Pakistan’s 40-year-long gold medal drought with a record-breaking 92.97 meters throw — a new world record — received a grand welcome upon his return to the country after his historic performance at the Paris Olympics 2024.

Government officials including the provincial and federal ministers, the Olympic hero’s family and his fans in large numbers arrived at Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport to receive Nadeem.

Nadeem returned home via Turkish Airlines flight TK-174, which departed 27 minutes late from Istanbul Airport and landed at the Lahore airport at 1:25.

On the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the flight — carrying the national hero — was welcomed with a water cannon salute at the airport.

Federal Planning and Development Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Prime Minister Youth Program Chairman Rana Mashhood, Minister of State for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima and Khawaja Saad Rafique — on behalf of the government— welcomed Nadeem at the airport.

While interacting with journalists at the airport, Nadeem said he was “grateful to Allah” for his great achievement during the Paris Olympics 2024. He also thanked the nation for the respect and honor it has bestowed on him.

Due to the prayers of his parents and the nation, Allah brought me to this position, he added.

“There is a long journey behind this success.I worked hard day and night to get the medal.”

“I’m very happy to win a gold medal for my country during the Paris Olympics,” he said, adding that he would prepare himself to maintain his performance in the upcoming events.

Nadeem left the airport for his hometown via a double decker bus. The Punjab police were escorting the bus.

It is worth mentioning that Nadeem won the Olympic men’s javelin title in Paris on Thursday, beating defending champion, India’s Neeraj Chopra, to secure Pakistan’s first individual gold medal at a Summer Games.

Special Postal Stamp Issued to Honor Arshad Nadeem

On the occasion of Pakistan’s 77th Independence Day, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed to issue a special postage stamp titled “Azam-e-Istehkam”,featuring an image of Arshad Nadeem to pay tribute to Pakistan’s star javelin thrower.

The stamp serves as a symbol of Pakistan’s commitment to development, stability, and the enduring spirit of its people.

The stamp not only celebrates the athletic achievements of Arshad Nadeem, who recently set a new Olympic record by throwing the javelin a remarkable distance of 92.97 meters at the Paris Olympics, but it also highlights the country’s historic struggle for independence.

The federal government issued a special postage stamp themed ‘Azm-e-Istehkam’ in connection with Pakistan’s Independence Day, featuring an image of Arshad Nadeem.

Hilal-e-Imtiaz Award for Arshad Nadeem

President Asif Ali Zardari has directed for conferment of Hilal-e-Imtiaz, the second-highest civilian award given by the Government of Pakistan, for Arshad Nadeem in recognition of his record-breaking performance in the Paris Olympics 2024.

“The President will confer the civil award upon Arshad Nadeem during a special ceremony to be held in recognition of his prominent performance in sports.

The President will confer the civil award under Article 259 (2) of the Constitution,” President Secretariat Press Wing said in a press release, on Saturday:

“President Asif Ali Zardari directed that Arshad Nadeem be awarded the Hilal-e-Imtiaz, Arshad Nadeem has made the country proud in the field of sports with his excellent performance”.

Hero’s Welcome in Hometown Mian Channu

Arshad Nadeem received a hero’s welcome in his hometown Mian Channu, with crowds gathering to meet the Olympic champion.

People inMian Channu have been celebrating Nadeem’s triumph since Thursday night, where the event was broadcast live by a digital projector onto a screen hanging on the back of a truck.

Pakistan’s first Olympic Gold Medal

Arshad Nadeem became the first-ever individual gold medalist in the Olympics for Pakistan.

In the first stage, the star javelin player failed to make a mark in his first attempt, however, he made a remarkable recovery with 92.97m in his second attempt, a new Olympic record.

He surpassed Norway’s Andreas Thorkildsen, who threw the farthest at 90.57 during the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Punjab Government Announces Rs100 Million Reward

The Punjab government announced a reward of Rs 100 million for Arshad Nadeem, recognizing his exceptional achievement in the Paris Olympics 2024.

Sindh Government Announces Rs50 Million Reward

The Sindh government also announced a reward of Rs 50 million for Pakistan’s star athlete Arshad Nadeem.
