Afghanistan Squad for T20 World Cup 2024: Rashid to Lead

Afghanistan Squad has been unveiled for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. The star leg-spinner Rashid Khan will lead the 15-men squad as he is handed the captaincy mantle. The tournament will be held jointly in the West Indies and the USA this June.

Fresh Faces Earn Call-Ups for Afghanistan Squad

The Afghan selectors have opted for a blend of experience and exciting youth. Newcomers Karim Janat, Mohammad Ishaq, and Noor Ahmad have all been rewarded for their strong domestic performances. Notably, Hashmatullah Shahidi missed out on selection. He captained the team in the 2023 ODI World Cup

Young Debuts and Wicketkeeping Options

The 20-year-old Nangyal Kharoti who impressed on his international debut against Ireland in March, finds a place in the squad. The left-arm spinner picked up five wickets in just three matches, showcasing his talent and promise. Another youngster, wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Ishaq, who represented Afghanistan in the U19 World Cups of 2020 and 2022, also earned a call-up.

Bowling Attack Retains Core

The spin attack will be spearheaded by the ever-reliable Rashid Khan, ably supported by Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Noor Ahmad, Nangyal Kharoti, and the experienced Mohammad Nabi. In the pace department, Naveen-ul-Haq, Fareed Ahmad, and Fazalhaq Farooqi retain their places, providing a potent combination of speed and swing.
