Pakistan Cricket Board has decided to end its partnership with assistant red ball coach Tim Nielson as his contract will not be renewed. This marks another chapter in PCB’s strained relationship with foreign coaches. Tim Nielson who served as head coach Jason Gillespie’s deputy was due a contract renewal after Pakistan toured Australia.
Talking to ESPN Crick Info, the South African hinted that he had made good progress with the team and was optimistic about the upcoming series but PCB informed that his services were no longer needed.

Uncertainty Around Jason Gilispe
Head coach Jason Gillespie, visibly frustrated by the decision, revealed he was not consulted beforehand. This follows PCB’s earlier move to strip Gillespie of his selection committee role in October, relegating him to a “match day strategist.” The latest development could deepen the rift between the Australian coach and PCB, raising questions about his future.
It’s also important to consider Jason Gillespie’s contract terms and conditions regarding early exit. Gilespe has a contract till the middle of 2026. If PCB did him before that PCB would have to pay him significant money. On the other hand, if Gilispe ends his contract prematurely the payout will be less.
PCB’s Plan to get rid of foreign coaches and Its Implications
It seems PCB plans to frustrate Gilispe so he steps down which will save PCB bucks. This move was followed by PCB’s decision to remove him from the selection panel which left Gilispe disappointed.
Another example of this was a few weeks ago when ESPN Crick info published a story regarding Jason Gilespe’s uncertain future but PCB was quick enough to deny this the notable point is that in a press release that was supposed to reaffirm that Gillespie will continue till the end of his contract in 2026 but the press release mentioned that Australian will continue for South Africa series raising more doubts then there were before.
PCB is on a mission to get rid of foreign coaches and replace them with local ones. This began with white ball coach Gary Kirsten resigning from his role due to rising tensions with PCB and himself. Nielson was the latest victim of PCB’s witch hunt against foreign coaches.
The primary justification given for the decision by PCB is that the foreign coaches do not stay in Pakistan for a longer period and their participation on the domestic side of cricket is limited. Whilst Nielson assured his availability it seemed higher-ups at Lahore had already made up their minds regarding this.
PCB has not announced who will be filling Neilson’s shoes for the Red Ball series against Proteas. In the case of Gillespie stepping down before the series can cause a significant setback in Pakistan’s Campaign which has historically struggled against the SENA nations.
