Earlier this week, Pakistan’s white-ball head coach Gary Kristen stepped down. The Proteas star submitted his resignation to the Pakistan Cricket Board, which was later accepted. Red-ball coach Jason Gillespie will fill in the shoes of Kristen as Interim coach for the team’s Australia tour.
What led to Gary Kristen’s Resignation?
The actual reason for the former coach’s move is unclear, but it’s believed that the recent changes in the power dynamics, in which the coach and captain’s role was limited in selection processes, caused a rift between Gary Kristen and the board. On the other hand, some credible journalists such as Sohail Imran from Geo News reported that only blaming PCB for this would not be fair as Gary himself was also violating the conditions of his contract by not being present in the National High-Performance Center where he was obliged to be there as per his contract. These two factors caused Gary Kristen to part ways with PCB.

Who will Replace Gary Kristen?
Aqib Javed who is the selection committee member is also credited for the pitch preparation strategy that led Pakistan’s historic victory against England and is considered the top choice for the stint along with former off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq also in contention for the position.
How will Gary Kirsten’s resignation impact the team?
Gary Kristen’s resignation is a new chapter to PCB’s long-term inconsistent policies. Gary joined in April this year during his tenure Pakistan had a poor T20 World Cup run in the USA where the team made a first-round exit.
This change will harm the Pakistan team touring Australia under new leader Muhammad Rizwan. SENA tours are always tricky for men in green and when it’s compounded with developments like this it always affects the on-field performance of the team.
