The much-awaited clash between Pakistan and India in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 took place at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. This match, highly anticipated by fans from both sides of the border, promised an exciting encounter.
The stadium was packed, with cricket enthusiasts glued to their seats, eager to witness the nail-biting encounter unfold. What started as a promising game for Pakistan quickly turned into a disappointing excursion marked by Pakistan’s self-destruction. Despite Pakistan’s efforts, it was the Indian squad that emerged victorious, defeating Pakistan.
Pakistan’s Bowling Brilliance
From the beginning, the atmosphere was buzzing, with both teams exhibiting a high level of confidence and skill. Pakistan, known for their fierce batting and talented bowling attack, started strong by taking wickets consistently, ultimately bowling India out for a total of 119 runs.
Naseem Shah, shone brightly, taking 3 wickets for just 17 runs, including the crucial wicket of Virat Kohli. Haris Rauf also delivered an impressive performance with figures of 3/21 while Mohammad Amir contributed significantly with 2/23. Their combined efforts set the stage for what looked like a comfortable chase for Pakistan given their batting strength.

A Disappointing Chase
On the other hand, Pakistan’s batting performance was extremely disappointing as they failed to chase a relatively mediocre total. Mohammad Rizwan was the lone warrior, scoring 31 off 44 balls but his efforts were in vain. Fakhar Zaman took on the bowlers & looked dangerous until he was sent back to the pavilion with a stunning catch.
There were no significant partnerships, and even Naseem Shah’s late explosion of fours couldn’t save Pakistan as they came too late to cross the line. All in all, while Pakistan’s bowling and fielding were decent, it was their batting that let the team down.
India’s Modest Total
The Indian batters could not post a challenging total on the board. Both the openers were sent back to the pavilion relatively early, with Rohit Sharma dismissed after scoring just 13 runs and Virat Kohli managing only 4 runs. Rishabh Pant was the only standout batter, scoring 42, which contributed significantly to the total of 119.

India’s Bowling Brilliance
On the contrary, the tide surprisingly shifted towards India’s side as their bowlers and fielders managed to defend a low total. Jasprit Bumrah led the bowling attack with 3/12 dismantling the Pakistan lineup, Hardik Pandya contributed with 2/24 and Axar Patel took 1/11.
Crucial wickets were taken at the right time, making it tough for the Pakistani batters to score runs in the middle overs. Through fielding pressure was created, resulting in breakthroughs when needed most. This pressure led to Pakistan’s defeat as they appeared to panic, unable to successfully chase what seemed like a comfortable target.
Regrouping and Moving Forward
India emerged victorious, boosting their confidence for the rest of their ICC T20 World Cup 2024 campaign. However, the Pakistan team seems to be struggling to find their momentum. It was a tough loss for them coming so close, and from here on, they need to gather themselves, move on from this loss, and focus on their next match.
To turn things around, they need to find the best combination, display their skills, hold their nerve under pressure, and score a victory. Further, the Pakistani squad needs to demonstrate resilience in their upcoming game and mend the hearts of their disappointed fans.
