England Squad for T20 World Cup: Archer Makes Long-Awaited Return

The England squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 has been announced. The announcement by the winners of the 2022 edition, comes ahead of their four-match T20I series against Pakistan starting on May 22nd.

Archer Back After Injury Hardships

The biggest news is the return of Jofra Archer. The star fast bowler hasn’t played for England since March 2023 due to a lengthy battle with elbow injuries. Archer has faced multiple setbacks since 2021, including stress fractures and even surgery from a freak accident.

His inclusion bolsters England’s bowling attack, which also sees the experienced Chris Jordan return after an eight-month international absence. The defending champions will be quite confident after the return of their pace maestro. He had been a pivotal part of the England Squad which lifted the 2019 World Cup Trophy.

Buttler Leads Balanced Squad

Jos Buttler will continue to lead the team, with a strong batting line-up featuring contenders like Will Jacks, Phil Salt, and Jonny Bairstow. Ben Duckett provides valuable left-handed variety, while Moeen Ali offers all-round capabilities. The lower order boasts the firepower of Harry Brook, Liam Livingstone, and Sam Curran, who was Player of the Final in England’s 2022 World Cup triumph. Adil Rashid spearheads the spin attack, supported by the uncapped Tom Hartley.
