Red Dragons may have fallen short of the League Two title, but a dramatic late winner secured a second-place finish and a Wrexham promotion to League One in style on Saturday. Andy Cannon’s 88th-minute strike sent the Racecourse Ground into raptures, capping off a successful season for the newly-promoted Welsh club.
The second consecutive promotion for a Hollywood-clinched English club, a team worthy of the honors. The Wrexham promotion has been nothing short of a banger for the owners, McElhenney and Reynolds.
Stockport Clinch Title, Wrexham Take Runner-Up Spot
Connor Lemonheigh-Evans provided the breakthrough for the Stockport after the first goalless 29 minutes, but the Red Dragons were quick to respond and Palmer finished up in the left corner, firing past the goalkeeper, just after the interval. With the clock ticking, Andy Conner led the ball into the goal in the 8th minute to clinch all three points for the all-important Wrexham promotion.
Despite the defeat, Stockport County celebrated their League Two championship title at the Racecourse Ground. Wrexham, however, refused to be overshadowed.

Manager’s verdict on the Emphatic win
Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson:
“Five wins to finish the season is great from the lads. We needed to finish the season well. We spoke last week about rewarding our away traveling army and this week [we did the same] – we’ve got a very proud home record here. We wanted to finish the season in style and we were able to do that with an excellent second-half display. When the key fixtures have arrived, we’ve cranked it up and put in some good performances. That’s important to produce when the crunch time of the season arrives.”
